When I graduated from college I started working in Pharma and I thought the harder I work the faster I will get to the top. And only at the top would I have both time freedom and money! What I didn't realize is with every level I climbed, more of my time freedom was taken from me. I only realized this when my husband sat me down and said if you continue working 130+ hour weeks I am not sticking around. So I knew I needed a change, but I didn't know what the solution was. I tried a few different things but ultimately landed on flipping houses with my father.

At first I thought this was going to be the solution, as the harder I worked directly correlated with my compensation. I was addicted to the check we would get when we would sell a house, which only fueled my drive to work harder to find the next property. A few years later when hit with a six-figure tax bill I realized that all I did was create myself another job. A job that I still worked 130+ hours, but this masked by the title of owner. It was time to question whether or not my strategy was getting me closer or further away from my Why - ability to be there for my family. So what was our solution? We turned to multifamily investing. It gave us our time back. It limited our tax exposure. It allowed us to work smarter, not harder. It has allowed us to work in Canada while visiting family, Mexico while vacationing, at horse shows in-between rounds.

All of this did not come overnight. And it wasn’t easy, which is why so many people don’t take action. But what I can tell you is that it is a lot easier if your mind is in the right frame. What do I mean? Like you, I feared how I was going to afford to buy a property. Like you, I feared that I didn’t know how to determine if it was a good investment. Like you, I didn’t know how to run a property. Like you I didn’t know what I didn’t know. So how did I do it? Like you, I followed people who inspired me and gave me the education and the confidence to get started one step at a time. Like you I wasn’t afraid to ask questions. And like you, I did not let my fears of the unknown dictate my ability to achieve my dream. If you have read this far, YOU ARE LIKE ME!
